A love for youth and the development of their full potential was the primary motivating factor that inspired Founder Mary Lou Allison Gardner Little to organize Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. Today; young people face challenges that could never have been imagined years ago; however, such challenges provide the sorority with opportunities to carry on Little’s vision.

Rhoers are young girls ages twelve to eighteen who are organized on a local, regional, and national level. The Rhoer affiliates work to help other young people while they learn about their heritage and develop leadership skills. Sigma Gamma Rho is dedicated to assisting Rhoers in growing into women of substance who are committed to service.

​

The Eta Theta Sigma Rhoer Club was the first edition of the Sigma Family's expansion, established under Basileus Dawne Stanton's direction. Led by Rhoer Advisor Katrina Johnson and Assistant Advisor LaVerne Mason, seven young ladies were inducted on January 25, 2020.

Since its inception, Sigma Gamma Rho has promoted unity among women and worked with individuals who were not members of Greek-lettered organizations. These women were organized into auxiliaries that had various names until 1954 when the sorority officially approved the organized affiliate group and accepted the name “Philo” (meaning “Friend”) as their official name.

The Philos, which means "friend," has contributed countless hours of community service and thousands of dollars to Sigma Gamma Rho’s aim to enhance the quality of life within every community. 

​

The Eta Theta Sigma Philo Affiliate was established under the direction of Basileus Tori Williams. Led by Philo Advisor Rusiane Jones and Philo Assistant Advisor Kristina Cao, five ladies were inducted on January 27, 2024.

The Rhosebud Club is an affiliate group of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., consisting of a diverse group of girls ages 8 through 11. Delicate like rosebud's petals, this group is handled with special care and attention.

 

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. seeks to help cultivate girls as they grow into well-rounded young ladies who embody the qualities needed to be good students and productive citizens. We feel this can be best achieved through action that will contribute to the overall well-being of the Rhosebud.

The Eta Theta Sigma Rhosebud Club was established under the direction of Basileus Tori Williams. Led by Rhosebud Advisor Misha Johnson, six young ladies were welcomed on March 20, 2023.
